I lead an eight-person team building tax compliance software for the Australian property funds sector. The work tends to involve the unglamorous parts: reducing infrastructure costs by 83%, cutting a week of conformance testing down to thirty minutes, identifying the loyalty abuse pattern that had been costing the business significant revenue. I write here when I work through something I wish I had known earlier.
I came up through Java and Spring Boot, spent a period of freelance work on the Node and Next.js side of the stack, and have spent the last three years on Python, Django, and the AWS services that compliance work requires.
